Informed Consent
In a medical setting the term "informed consent" normally means informing the paitent concerning the medical indications for a particular course of action.  If it is a surgical procedure, a deviated septum (broken nose) for example the physician might tell you what the obstruction is doing to your breathing and sinuses; what might happen if s/he does nothing; and why it is better to correct the problem.  When you decide to go ahead with the surgery s/he will discuss the risks involved from the administration of anesthetic; the time involved,; how long you might expect to spend recovering; possible complications;  future care and indicators that you should contact hir or a the hospital (excessive bleeding eg.); etc etc.

This is not what "informed consent" means to abortion opponents however, and when they talk of informed consent what they are usually talking about is legislation that will place onerous burdens on both physicians and patients and make abortion mor inaccessible.  They are also talking about providing information from a belief point of view and not a medical one, and sometimes, as in the case of the supposed breast cancer link, including information they know to be fear inducing and inaccurate.  With this in mind these articles can be given some context

This is a 'template' of the advice I have given to women who have found themselves in a pregnancy they are ambivelant about.  It helps them answer the question "What should I do now?"

You will frequently hear the claim that women are forced to have abortions.  This is discussed from the point of view of one woman who checked people into a clinic.

Meg - once more - gives a generic description of  an abortion protocol so that you might have some idea what is involved.

You might start by asking "which type" since there are at least six identified types and they have different causes frequently.  This is a rether long answer but if this scares you then it's well worth reading.

No way no how!! This old piece of misinformation is based on the twisting of what the original presentation said.  Read all about it!

Reflex actions - which occur below the brain at the spinal cord level - can take many forms.

Katha Pollitt does an excellent job of explaining it.

Sure pregnancy s temporary - or is it?  Your body will soon find out that the changes are not temporary.  This is from a medical viewpoint.

An abortion, just like any medical procedure, can be stress inducing.  However the descriptions of women who wake up years later suffering from PASS are not verified by the studies.

Pregnancy doesn't medically start until nidation - or implantation.  Any other claim is based on belief and not on biology.

That idea is actually a fairly new one to medicine and is not really supported by the facts of biology.

An old adage is that you should not believe everything you hear and only half of what you see. Those who enjoy special effects in movies know that film can certainly lie but Silent Scream proves narration can too.

Do the anti abortion pictures lie?

We've all sen those grisly pictures abortion opponents use to get some point or other across.  Are they real?  This is an exchange I had with an on-line poster.
